2026年6月27日に、「International Perspectives on Bioeconomy Policy and the Role of Biofoundries」と題して第9回KUEB Premier Seminar・第17回 EGBRC Lecture が実施されました。これは JST-ASPIRE/GCBAの 2026 Annual RetreatのDay3としても実施されました。本セミナーには、国内外から50名ほどの参加者がありました。
本セミナーでは、GCBA に参加している5名の各国代表者による、各国におけるバイオファウンドリーの役割とバイオエコノミー政策の動向についての講演がありました。

その後、各講演者に加えて、近藤 昭彦氏 (神戸大学 大学院科学技術イノベーション研究科 客員教授 ／JST・ASPIRE研究代表者／株式会社バッカス・バイオイノベーション 代表取締役社長兼CEO )が参加し、水無 渉氏（神戸大学 先端バイオ工学研究センター 客員教授 ／新エネルギー・産業技術総合開発機構（NEDO） イノベーション戦略センター（TSC）上席ストラテジスト ）がモデレーターとなり、各講演を踏まえてパネルディスカッションが行われました。会場からも質問があり活発な議論があり、本テーマへの関心の高さが見受けられました。特に、会場からPaul Freemont教授 および Huimin Zhao教授らも議論に参加され盛況でした。
なお、本セミナー冒頭では、総合司会者の二歩裕 氏 (神戸大学 特命主任政策研究職員／特務教授)から、神戸大学の取り組みであるKUEB（Kobe University Engineering Biology Project）についての説明があり、このセミナーの位置付けが明確化されました。75名の研究者が参加しているKUEBでは、Making small, bigというスローガンのもと、『小さな「いのち」の存在が大きな「地球規模の課題」を解決する、その可能性に神戸大学が挑んでいます』というコンセプトで日々研究が行われています。
また、本セミナーの後には、出席者に対して2025年10月に開所したバイオものづくり研究棟の施設見学が実施され、最新の設備ならびに研究内容について情報共有が行われました。

On June 27, 2026, the 9th KUEB Premier Seminar and 17th EGBRC Lecture, entitled “International Perspectives on Bioeconomy Policy and the Role of Biofoundries,” was held. The event was also organized as Day3 of the JST-ASPIRE/GCBA 2026 Annual Retreat. Approximately 50 participants from Japan and abroad attended the seminar.
The seminar featured presentations by representatives of GCBA member countries— Emma Frow, PhD (Arizona State University, USA); Buhm Soon Park, PhD (Endowed Chair Professor, KAIST, Republic of Korea); Taemin Woo, PhD (Assistant Research Professor, KAIST, Republic of Korea); Robert Smith, PhD (Lecturer, The University of Edinburgh, UK); and Makiko Matsuo, PhD (Associate Professor, The University of Tokyo, Japan). The speakers discussed the roles of biofoundries and recent developments in bioeconomy policies in their respective countries.
Following the presentations, a panel discussion was held to further explore the topics raised during the lectures. In addition to the speakers, Akihiko Kondo, PhD (Professor Emeritus, Kobe University; CEO, Bacchus Bio Innovation; Chair, ASPIRE, Japan) joined the panel. The discussion was moderated by Mr. Wataru Mizunashi (Visiting Professor, Kobe University; Senior Strategist, NEDO, Japan). The session generated lively discussion, with active participation and questions from the audience, especially by Drs. Paul Freemont and Huimin Zhao.
At the beginning of the seminar, Yutaka Nibu, PhD (Professor of Practice, Project Senior Policy and Research Officer, Kobe University), who served as a host, introduced the Kobe University Engineering Biology Project (KUEB) and explained its role. With the participation of 75 researchers, KUEB pursues research under the slogan “Making small, big.” Guided by the concept: Kobe University is exploring how “small” lives can solve “big” global challenges.
After the seminar, participants were invited to tour the Engineering Biology Research Building, which opened in October 2025. During the tour, attendees were introduced to the facility’s state-of-the-art equipment and ongoing research activities.
